About

Our Story

Outdoor play area for after-school care centre in Newport

Outlets Co-op Neighbourhood House is an entirely independent, community-run, non-profit organisation intended to serve, support and foster the community of Newport and surrounding areas. We commenced our services in 1973, operating from a hall and garage in Newport known as “The Fun Factory,” offering out-of-school-hour programs to the community.

The need to become more established led to the acquisition of 43 Mason Street in 1975. To meet increasing demand, two extensions to the facilities were made in 1996 and 2011, as well as ongoing technological and aesthetic upgrades.

For over five decades, Outlets Co-op has survived and grown with the community and maintained itself within the social economic environment. We continue to be a local centre of social connection and support, neighbourhood information, education, community development and social services.

Our Values

At Outlets Co-op Neighbourhood House, we are dedicated to nurturing a community where diversity, education, and environmental stewardship form the core of our values and goals. We commit ourselves to offer a broad spectrum of programs and services designed to uplift the disadvantaged, foster community development, and provide educational growth tailored to meet local needs.

By providing emotional support, affordable childcare, and promoting pathways for education and career advancement, we strive to alleviate poverty and empower all community members. Our efforts are further exemplified through our commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices, ensuring we build a welcoming, informed, and resilient community.
